He set up the world's largest petroleum refinery at Jamnagar (Gujarat, India) basic level. Currently its capacity is 70,000 barrels per day i.e. 30 million 30 million tons per year. The refinery, with an investment of 100,000 crore rupees (approximately US $ 24 billion), has petrochemical, power generation, ports and related infrastructure.

Mukesh Ambani founded Reliance Communications Limited, one of the largest telecom companies in India. However, after separation between the two brothers, Reliance Infocomm Anil Dhirubhai Ambani moved into the group. Under Ambani's leadership, Reliance entered the retail market under its wholly owned subsidiary Reliance Retail. Telecom industries also included products and services. Reliance Jio has made it to the top five in the country's telecom services since its public launch on 5 September 2016.

Under his leadership, Reliance Retail has also launched a new chain of Delight stores. And has also signed a contract with Nova Chemicals to make Reliance Retail energy efficient.

Ambani owns the Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians, which reached the finals in 2013. He has also established Dhiru Bhai Ambani International School in Mumbai.

Mukesh Ambani is the son of the late Dhirubhai Ambani, one of India's brightest industrialists. Dhirubhai Ambani was an Indian entrepreneur and founder of Reliance Industries.

His brother Anil Ambani heads Reliance (Anil "Dhirubhai Ambani" group). The group works in the areas of telecommunications, electricity, natural resources, infrastructure and financial services. After the death of the father, the two brothers heard the much-hyped hymns, after which the Reliance Group split into two.

Mukesh Ambani's wife Nita Ambani looks after the social and charitable work of Reliance Industries. They have three children: Akash, Isha and Anant.

His family belongs to the (Modh Baniya) community of Gujarat. His mother's name is Kokila ben Ambani.
